Route 66

Posted by
LauraS (Chico, United States) on 11 March 2011 in Miscellaneous and Portfolio.

This one is for Becky in Santa Monica.

It is ironic, that the photo selected for today is the morning that a tsunami is expected to reach California beaches from the devastating earthquake in Japan. Be careful down there, Becky, as I know you will have your camera out!

Panasonic DMC-ZS1 1/320 second F/3.3 ISO 80 25 mm (35mm equiv.)

Visual learner that I am, I enjoy taking photos, seeing others photos, and sharing them with all of you.
How I view the world may influence others to see more clearly that the world I live in is truly a beautiful and spectacular place. I hope I can share my sense of wonder with others. I see the world in beauty, awe, reverence and wonder.

Truly, I am an amateur who loves to look at my world, marvel at its beauty, diversity, and I capture a slice for myself to remember and share. Surely I get inspired by the work I see from other photographers and it moves me to try new things.

B. Thomas from Arlington, Texas, United States

When I was a kid my family made these big trips on Route 66 from Texas "all the way" to California to visit relatives! I will always have good memories of those trips.

@B. Thomas: Yeah, I know what you mean. We migrated to southern CA in 1956. Between 1956 and 1962, I remember many trips back and forth on Rte. 66 to visit family, too. Mostly very good times, although before air conditioning in cars, it was HOT.

BBM from Sussex, United Kingdom

@BBM: Thanks, great route, for sure.

The Routew of the great migration during the Dust Bowl and Great Depression. I lived in Missouri for years, and out there you can still see bits and pieces of the route parrallel to I-44. Fading history.

@Monterey John: Yeah, well said.

This is a cool wall...We are watching closely from way back here too as we have lots of friends and realtives in California..

@Denny Jump Photo: Thanks, yes, we paid attention, too.

Bettina from Los Angeles, United States

Beautiful shot! I'm keeping my sofa cleared for Becky just in case...

13 Mar 2011 2:46am

@Bettina: Apparently she has been bothered by the storms and such. I hope she is OK.

I think those were some of the same years we were making those trips, and without air conditioning as well. I guess you remember all of the signs saying "last stop for gas before the desert" and the cheap Indian souvenirs. I always wanted to stop at every one of them. ;-)
